Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th April 2025 Outline

Jesus has just been arrested and charged, but there were still insufficient witnesses against Him (Matthew 26:57,59). They looked for false witnesses, but by their assessment, most of the accusations were not weighty enough for condemnation. Eventually two false witnesses appeared. How do you rate their accusation (Matthew 26:61)?

Looking at where Jesus made that statement Himself (see John 2:18-19), you will observe that either they did not understand Him, or they deliberately took Him out of context. Many people are accused and charged for offences they never committed. It is not new, but that does not make it right (Proverbs 19:5,9).

It surprised the High Priest that Jesus did not defend Himself. Perhaps he remembered Isaiah’s prophecy concerning the Christ (Isaiah 53:1-7) hence his asking Jesus on oath if He is the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus could not remain silent when questioned about the truth for which He came into the world (Matthew 26:61-64).

The high priest accused Jesus of blasphemy, but the truth is clear – Jesus is indeed the Son of God and Son of Man. He is the soon-coming King (Matthew 26:64; cf. Matthew 24:30). Read Matthew 26:67-68 and note the physical abuse Jesus suffered at the hands of the religious leaders in full view of the high priest.

Praise Him, Praise Him
1. Praise Him, praise Him—
Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Sing, O earth, His wonderful love proclaim.
Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor give to His holy name!
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long:
O ye saints that dwell on the mountain of Zion,
Praise Him, praise Him ever in joyful song.

2. Praise Him, praise Him—
Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died;
He our rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
Hail Him, hail Him, Jesus the Crucified.
Loving Savior, meekly enduring sorrow,
Crowned with thorns that cruelly pierced His brow;
Once for us rejected, despised and forsaken,
Prince of Glory, He is triumphant now.

3. Praise Him, praise Him—
Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer,
Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring,
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him—
Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Death is vanquished! Tell it with joy, ye faithful.
Where is now thy victory, boasting grave?
Jesus lives! No longer thy portals are cheerless;
Jesus lives, the mighty and strong to save.

Closing Prayer:
Pray that God will help you never to fulfil bad aspects of prophecy. Pray also for those who are suffering unjustly.
